Shortly after the deployment of our PIM solution Origin at Piglet in Bed, we sat down for a chat with Co-Founder and CFO Axel Stelk to discuss the deployment of Origin at Piglet in Bed and their plans for the future.
Why did Piglet in Bed choose to implement a PIM solution?
“Piglet in Bed decided to implement a PIM solution because of the fact that we had scaled up quite rapidly, and our initial systems were not built for scale. We got to the point where we realised we needed a PIM system specifically to launch products more efficiently. We had an existing tech stack that was built around Shopify, so we looked for a system that could easily integrate into Shopify alongside our other systems. Origin from Retail247 ticked all our boxes.”
Why did Piglet in Bed choose Origin from Retail247?
“We chose Origin as our PIM solution for a number of reasons. We spoke to a number of different suppliers, but Retail247 stood out due to the breadth of retail experience they offered. It was very clear that they understood exactly what we were looking for. Not only did the solution tick most of our boxes, but it was flexible and customisable enough to cater to any of our additional needs.”
What was the implementation process like?
“Implementation was a very smooth process. We kicked off by doing a process mapping exercise in which Retail247 reviewed all of our existing processes. It was great to receive feedback from people who had worked in retail for quite some time, as well as their recommendations for further efficiencies that could be gained. Retail247 then demonstrated how Origin would fit alongside our current systems by saving time and making processes more effective. Subsequently, we had weekly calls in which the team updated us on their progress and asked us any questions. It was a very smooth process, and we always felt safe in the knowledge that Retail247 knew exactly what they were doing.”
What is working with the Retail247 team like?
“The Retail247 team is incredibly knowledgeable. Throughout the entire journey, we have been able to tell that all of the team members have a lot of retail experience. They are very professional and understanding, and are always very quick to respond to any queries. They’re extremely flexible in finding solutions: there hasn’t been a single instance where the team has told us that something can’t be done. They are a pleasure to work with.”
How do you see your use of Origin expanding?
“We started off as a business with a very limited product range. One of our big plans for growth, as for any scaling business in the retail sector, is the expansion of our product range. Origin will enable us to do that, and a key point is that it will enable us to do it on time, which has been a big blocker in the past.
“Launching a product onto not only our own systems, but also Shopify and other partner websites has been made a much easier process by Origin. We would also like to deploy Origin’s price change module as we begin to work with more and more partners. Origin gives us a lot more confidence in terms of scalability.”
What are Piglet in Bed’s plans for the future?
“We would definitely like to deploy Archean [the stock solution] from Retail247. As we expand into physical retail and grow our product range, there is a real need for a flexible stock solution. It does allocation and replenishment, sets different stock buffers and virtual stock pools. Essentially all the things that a simple out-of-the-box system couldn’t do, Archean from Retail247 delivers.”
Being a relatively new business, Piglet in Bed opted to follow a different method to some of our longer established clients. We call this implementation method our Accelerate Programme.
